craft fairs and vendor markets are such a challenge.
one that really gets your heart pumping, your visions
going, and a feeling of the sense that everything quite lovely and amazing is not only possible >>> but coming shortly!
this was a very popular all day event put on by the queer magic makers group and held at the lovely humanist hall in oakland , california. i happened to have been in the area at the time so i applied. i was accepted to attend and the table fee was more than reasonable. so i made my way over the bridge by bart loaded up with 2 large bags, my trusty traveler's leather backpack, and the desire to make some fun and sincere connections for the day.
they did a cute maker's spotlight and vendor guide on their wordpress site in the weeks leading up to the event which introduced and highlighed
'we crave beauty' and my art offerings for...
so very many people strolled by and moved through there that day! as far as sharing the we crave beauty vibe with a wider audience - it was a fun time.
i had a number of sales, bidding a fond farewell to a few pouches, pairs of earrings, and mixed media note cards.
and i even got the chance to explain my process,
inspirations, and artist's intent with a few interested folks.
but as for the oaklanders my fellow vending mates--
the energy was very off. there were mad cliques all around busy espousing what i felt to be rather cold and bitter
expressions. and even in a room of self-proclaimed "queer"
folks i was the oh so obvious odd-girl-Out!
whew! it was quite a time for contemplative acts of
awareness and intent that was for sure!
i am reading in the picture below and that book was a wonderful part of my 'arsenal of calm!' that day.
(i am (kind of) featured on the new hompage...!
in the shadowy bottom of the right hand corner)

i brought soooo many treasures that day--
and lots of organic and exotic props to use for display!

but it turned out to be just the right kind of event to add to my knowledge and experience of the 'market life.'
all in all a definite challenge both emotionally and mentally!
before meeting jai, the smiling guy in the photo above...
i had not really even considered my accessories being for guys, too. but he picked up that pair of gemstone dangles, put them on and really looked great in them.
definitely got me thinking along the lines of a more unisex
flavor of accessories-- guys need beauty and the space for artistic adornment, too!
